Our Patroness, St. Mary Magdalen
Our model for Catholic living
The College of Saint Mary Magdalen is blessed to have St. Mary Magdalen as our patroness. She exemplifies the transformation that is possible for those who receive the love and mercy that Christ offers to all who follow Him.
Scripture tells us that Christ cast seven demons out of St. Mary Magdalen, and yet it was this reformed sinner who was one of the few to persevere at the foot of the cross. It was she too who was the first to encounter the Risen Lord, becoming the Apostolorum Apostola, the apostle of the Apostles.
Tradition also tells us that St. Mary Magdalen was the woman who anointed Our Lord with costly nard after bathing his feet with her tears. Seeking to pour out everything for Him, she went so far as to break the jar, extracting the last precious, perfumed drop.
We at the College of St. Mary Magdalen strive to follow in the footsteps of our patroness. We understand that each of us stands in need of redemption, a redemption impossible apart from Christ with whom all things are possible. Looking to St. Mary Magdalen we recognize that through divine love, every sinner can become a saint.
We pray that like St. Mary Magdalen we may proclaim Christ’s resurrection to the whole world. Inspired by the motto of our College, Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope) and the example of our patroness, we seek to joyfully proclaim the Good News and “make disciples of every nation.”
Prayer to
St. Mary Magdalen
Saint Mary Magdalen, blest in your encounter with the Risen Lord,
and chosen by Christ Himself to be the apostle to the apostles,
heralding to them the glad tidings of His Resurrection,
obtain for us, by your intercession, the grace to seek Christ the Way, the Truth, and the Life
with zeal, diligence, and perseverance,
that our encounter with Him in the course of our studies and in the sacramental life,
may bear abundant fruit in the Kingdom of Heaven,
where He lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen
V. Pray for us, Saint Mary Magdalen,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray
O God,
Whose only-begotten Son first entrusted to Mary Magdalen the joyful news of His resurrection, grant, that by her example and her intercession,
we may proclaim Christ as our living Lord
and one day gaze upon His sacred Face in glory,
for He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
