Patroness: Mary Magdalen

Patroness

According to Holy Scripture, Mary Magdalen was the first person to experience the mystery of total conversion. She was cured of demonic possession by Christ's love for her and converted to Christ because of her love for Him. She remained faithful to Christ throughout His life on earth, and after His death she served Christ's chosen representatives on earth, the Apostles.

Mary Magdalen was the first person to see the Risen Christ. In that encounter, she declared Him to be "Rabboni," that is "Teacher." She then became the first apostle of the Resurrection, a lay person sent personally by Christ to bring the Good News to men. Thereby, she became Apostolorum Apostola, the apostle of the Apostles.

Her conversion, her love of Christ, her faithfulness to Him, her service to Him and His Apostles, her encounter with the Risen Christ, her acknowledgment of Him as the Ultimate Teacher, and her zeal as a layman in spreading the Good News to all men make her a fitting patroness and model for Magdalen College.
