Magdalen College Choir

The Choir offers the students the opportunity to experience both traditional and contemporary liturgical music.  The choir’s source materials abide by the ordered rhythms of the liturgical calendar, rely upon the long standing tradition of sacred music including Gregorian chant, and always respect the directives of the Church.

Each incoming student meets personally with the Choir Director in order to discover the range of his or her voice as well as to discuss his or her musical background.  A student who can play the organ or another instrument may be called upon to accompany the Choir.

Performance Choir

The Performance Choir consists of an auditioned group of students who offer concerts and sing at community functions and nursing homes.  Their programs range from American and international folk songs to Big Band classics, jazz, and gospel music.

Polyphony Choir

The Polyphony Choir is a small auditioned group of students and staff who sing for Mass on feast days and Sundays and for special occasions at the College. Their repertoire consists of music from composers such as Tallis, Bach, Mozart, and Byrd. The Polyphony choir is featured on the College CDs.

Chant and Psalm Schola

The chant scholas consist of two groups, one all female group and one all male group.  They help in enrich the liturgies with the great treasure of the Church – Gregorian Chant – at daily Masses.
