Magdalen College is committed to keeping the cost of its education affordable, even for families of modest means. Within its financial ability, the College attempts to limit any unnecessary fiscal burden upon the parents and/or the student.

The College has established a financial aid program that has helped many students over the years to meet the tuition, room, and board costs. Candidates who apply for admission should apply for financial aid at the same time, although the final deadline for financial aid is June 1, prior to the opening of an academic year.

Types of Financial Aid

Grants and Scholarships

Need-based grants are awarded to both incoming freshmen and upperclassmen from the Magdalen College General Scholarship Fund, which is supported by annual contributions from our benefactors. In addition, limited scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and upperclassmen from special gifts to the College. Candidates for enrollment are notified of any grant or scholarship award at the time of their acceptance into the College. Upperclassmen are notified of their financial aid awards by July 1.

Federal Aid

Magdalen College is approved by the Department of Education to participate in the Federal Student Aid Program (Title IV). In order to qualify for a Pell Grant or Stafford loan, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by completing the paper application. Once the FAFSA is completed a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be sent to you and to the College Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office will then prepare an award summary for you based on the results of your SAR. Students completing the FAFSA should use the following school code: 022233.

Private Loans

The College offers financial counseling with respect to educational loan programs available to students and their families. For more information contact: Donald R. Regan dregan@magdalen.edu. Currently, private education loans are available to eligible Magdalen College students from Sallie Mae.

Work-Study

Upperclassmen may apply for work-study assistance. These awards are deducted from tuition fees in exchange for work done by the student on campus during the academic year. Assignments can include secretarial help, library work, and food service assistance. Work-study grants are given by July 1.

Family Discount

For families with two children enrolled at the College, there is a $1,000 discount for each child.
