Responding to the Holy Father's request to honor priests for their faithfulness, pastoral work and personal witness, Magdalen College welcomed the priests from the Diocese of Manchester, NH. to an evening of prayer and celebration.
On Friday, September 11th 2009, Bishop John B. McCormack led the priests of his diocese during a holy hour at the Magdalen College chapel. During the holy hour and vespers service, Abbot Matthew Leavy, O.S.B. provided an uplifting homily on the role of the priest.
Afterwards the priests were invited to a reception and dinner hosted by Magdalen College president Jeffrey Karls. During the dinner, Dr. F.J. Milligan, president of Serra New Hampshire, gave a moving talk about the blessing of the priesthood and the need for continued prayer for more vocations.
Mr. Karls concluded the evening with a short talk about what Magdalen College is doing to help with vocations. He mentioned that since the founding of the college, over 10% of the graduates have entered the priesthood or religious life. The college choir closed the evening with a favorite farewell song, The Irish Blessing.
