All Saints’ Day

Dear Friends,

Let us all rejoice in the Lord and keep a festival in honor of all the saints.  Let us rejoice with the angels in joyful praise to the Son of God (Entrance Antiphon from the Solemnity of All Saints).

We begin the month of all souls with the Solemnity of All Saints.  During the month of November, we pray for the souls of the faithful departed that they may share with the saints the beatific vision.  This time of year gives time for pause and reflection as the season changes and another harvest passes.  How is the harvest?  Have we gathered well the abundance of God’s gracious gifts?

I am grateful for this year’s harvest at the College.  This year the harvest includes a large freshman class of ambitious young people eager to learn the teachings of Holy Mother Church and the great learners who have passed before us.

I am grateful for the active generous alumni who have responded generously to the Saint Matthew Society appeal, funding scholarships for students with financial needs.

I am grateful for the members of the President’s Council for their ongoing support, renewed commitment, and dedicated efforts to advance the mission of the College.

I am grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of the faculty and staff, many of whom have made significant financial sacrifices to labor in God’s vineyard.  This includes long-time employees alongside more recent hires, including several recent graduates.  I am also pleased to welcome the new tutors – learned men and women who have come to share their God-given gifts and talents with the College community.

I am grateful for our College chaplain and for the priesthood of Christ.  For the sacraments and God’s merciful love, which animates the whole of the Magdalen College Program of Studies.

I am grateful for my family and for the recent arrival of our tenth child, Caroline.  I am grateful for the gift of faith and I am grateful for all the prayers and support from so many generous friends.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.  May God bless your souls and the souls of the faithful departed.

Sincerely in Christ,

Jeffrey J. Karls
