Freedom and Participation
“Freedom is not an opting out. It is an opting in – a participation in Being itself.” – Pope Benedict XVI (2008 Meeting with Catholic Educators)
The College offers a very strong program of liberal studies, rich opportunities to mature in the faith, and sound structures and programs which support a Catholic community life. Each student chooses how much he or she will invest of themselves in the common and spiritual life of the College. Following the example of Holy Mother Church, who “proposes but does not impose,” the College calls her students to immerse themselves in the Catholicity of the college, recognizing that students who freely learn to follow Christ while in college, are more likely to become faithful disciples in their post-collegiate lives.
Student Organizations
These student clubs have enriched our student life and will continue to do so well into the future. For student organizations or clubs to be officially recognized by the College, students must petition the Dean of Students for such status. The petition should include a statement of purpose for the organization or club; an explanation of the means to accomplish this purpose; an explanation of how the organization will benefit the community and its members; and requirements for membership. In addition, each organization or club must secure a faculty or staff representative.
St. Genesius Players Drama Club
The Genesius Players Drama Club is dedicated to bringing excellent theatrical productions to The
College and local community. The St. Genesius Players are committed to performing one major play or musical each semester, as well as several smaller ones throughout the year. The St. Genesius Players welcome all levels of acting ability and encourages all students to come and immerse themselves in the craft of acting so that they may better understand the true form of the art and enrich student life through beautiful and well tuned plays and musicals.
Outdoor Club
The Outdoor Club provides a forum for its members to experience the beauty of God’s creation, learn skills by which its members can better and more safely appreciate it, and practice those skills through hands-on experience and guided instruction. The Outdoor Club’s first goals include exploring the 135 acre campus in order to find suitable places to construct camping sites and hiking trails, then move to explore Mt. Kearsarge in Warner and the beauty of greater New Hampshire and New England. Working together will build camaraderie and greater pride in our campus.
Spes Vitae
Spes Vitae (Hope for Life) is the prolife club at the College of St. Mary Magdalen. Our mission is to actively promote a culture of life through concrete means such as: prolife holy hours, volunteering at local pregnancy help centers, prayer witnessing, participation in local prolife events (e.g. annual N.H. March for Life), etc... Through these activities, the club benefits the college community as well as society at large by providing a formal means of activism and discipleship.
